THE CHERRY ORCHARD

Play by Anton Chekhov

The Cherry Orchard is an ironic portrait of a declining social class in pre-revolutionary Russia. The space is inhabited by ordinary figures—at times ridiculous, incoherent, and tragically human. They bear the weight of an inexorable fate: the relentless passage of time.

The play captures an aristocracy incapable of adapting to new social and personal responsibilities, perpetual students who fail to act on their own ideals, and former serfs who resist their own liberation. All are consumed by a world shifting beyond their awareness, trapped in the illusion of permanence as change unfolds around them.
